Overkill: when modern medicine goes too far by Paul A. Offit
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Quite a good book if you’re interested in your health, or health in general. It’s an odd thing that procedures and advice that work might be overlooked for continuing to apply things which don’t bring the benefits that they should. That’s what this book is really about, and it covers more than a dozen ailments and health tips, giving the broken down info on why it just ain’t worth it.
It’s tempting to put a complete summary here but I won’t for two reasons – it would be rude to Offit who has gone to the trouble of reading myriad research papers and crunching the numbers to offer his opinion. Plus I think for many people just being told what to do, or what to avoid, will be better if they also read the scientific backing for such advice.
A few health issues covered in the book include knee arthritis, peanut butter allergy, fever, teething antibiotics and vitamins.
I’ll give you one tip (and if you want more you can seek out the book):
Eat real, fresh vegetables and fruits to get your vitamins and minerals the way you were supposed to.
Beautiful, simple advice.
